Drug Delivery
We recently discovered a method to produce long, tapered carbon whiskers with uniform hollowness termed as Nanopipettes. We can synthesize arrays of nanopipettes with lengths exceeding hundreds of microns with the tips tapering down to tens of nanometers in size. The inner channel sizes range from few nm to few tens of nm. These structures are mechanically rigid and are thus extremely good for painless transdermal and trans-ocular drug delivery applications if their arrays can be transferred onto plastic substrates. The tissue damage is expected to be inconsequential.
